After being picked up from your Malaga or Costa del Sol hotel, journey to the starting point of your walk, the Conde de Guadalhorce dam, the main water reserve in the province of Malaga. Your guide will explain all about the history of the natural area of Desfiladero de los Gaitanes. The Gorge Desfiladero de los Gaitanes is a canyon carved by the Guadalhorce river. The northern access to it is via Guadalhorce reservoir, and the southern access is via El Chorro. The construction of a water channel from the reservoirs in the north to El Chorro was carried out together with a path for maintaining the channel. This path is known as El Caminito del Rey 'The King’s Little Pathway' because it was first opened by King Alfonso XIII. Approximately 2 miles (3 kilometers) long, the path is roughly three feet (approx. 1 meter) wide and hangs over 300 feet (100 meters) above the Guadalhorce river, earning it a reputation as one of the world's most dangerous roads. It has recently been refurbished, and extends along the vertical walls to a footbridge over the gorge.Accompanied by your guide, you'll walk the dramatic path, enjoying spectacular views over the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes Gorge and the Guadalhorce river below. At the end of your tour, you will be dropped back at your hotel.
