Tour description provided by Viator

Join us on an exciting trip on board a 20th century train and learn about history and El Escorial’s wealth of monuments through this magical experience. A marvellous tour of the heritage of the Royal Site of San Lorenzo de El Escorial.
King Philip II (the Spanish King who ruled from 1543 to 1551) will be waiting at Príncipe Pío station, on Platform 7, to welcome passengers to the historical Train that bears his name. For 55 minutes, we will enjoy the pleasant journey to El Escorial station, at the feet of the Sierra de Guadarrama mountains. During this journey, we will discover the way people travelled by train in the 40s and get the chance to admire the powerful Diesel ALCO (American Locomotive Company) engine. Once we arrive in El Escorial, buses will be waiting to take us from the train station to the town centre of San Lorenzo de El Escorial (a 5-minute ride), where we will be offered a free drink. Shortly after, we will start our guided tour of the Monastery of El Escorial (Declared World Heritage by UNESCO) and the town that surrounds it. This way, we will learn all about how people lived in those times in which Spain was called the Empire on which the sun never sets. The tour takes about 2 hours. At the end of the tour, you can eat at one of the restaurants that offer us special discounts. Then you will have free time to appreciate the wonderful setting of San Lorenzo de El Escorial. Once again, the buses will take us back to the train station to catch the train back to Madrid. PROGRAMMING DEPARTURE: Madrid-Príncipe Pío train station (10: 20h.)
