La Orotava has been very fortunate to preserve the beauty of its past. Traditional mansions are flanked with ornate wooden balconies like pirate galleons and surrounded by manicured gardens. You can cover the centre on foot in just half a day. Plaza de la Constitución, a large, shady plaza, is a good place to start exploring. On the plaza’s northeastern side is the Iglesia de San Agustín, a simple church with a carved wooden ceiling.
