La Gomera in detail

La Gomera in

One Day

This perfect day starts with exploring the colourful streets of San Sebastián, before heading to La Laguna Grande for hiking maps/tips and then weaving through magnificent, mist-drenched laurel forests to the summit of the island, Alto de Garajonay. Then drop in for a meal at much-loved Casa Efigenia in Las Hayas and, if time allows, visit the pottery artisans in El Cercado.

Two Days

Today, you're off to northern La Gomera, one of the most fertile places in the Canaries. Start among the banana groves of Hermigua, visiting its monastery and ethnography museum, before taking the coastal GM1 to pretty Agulo, above which the Mirador de Abrante opens up spectacular panoramas across to Tenerife. Continue on to beautiful Vallehermoso and stroll down to the beach, then make your way back to Hermigua for dinner at El Faro. Alternatively, spend the day tackling the hike down (or up!) the Hermigua valley via El Cedro.

Three Days

For many people the Valle Gran Rey is La Gomera's most gorgeous spot. Begin with a tasty breakfast overlooking the beach, perhaps at La Ñamera, then hop on a whale- and dolphin-watching trip. Sleep it all off on the town's beaches and wrap up with dinner at La Salsa.
