The helpful visitor centre is 5km east of El Paso on the LP-3 highway and offers free general information, detailed maps (be sure to pick up the English Caldera de Taburiente Paths map) as well as guides, an informative and excellent exhibition centre, plus a botanical garden. The centre’s 20-minute film (shown occasionally in English) is worth seeing.
Some of the more specialist literature has a price tag. If you want to stay in the park, there is a campsite between Roque de la Brevera Macha, Roque Salvaje and the river; you will need a permit, available from the visitor centre. You also require a permit to visit the Mirador de la Cumbrecita; book online at least three days before your visit.
Bus 300 (€1.50 from El Paso, 10 minutes) between Santa Cruz de la Palma and Los Llanos stops by twice hourly Monday to Friday and hourly at weekends. There are toilets at the visitor centre.
