Cantada d'Havaneres

Music in Calella de Palafrugell

Havaneres are melancholy Caribbean sea shanties that became popular among Costa Brava sailors in the 19th century, when Catalonia had busy links with Cuba. These folksy concerts, which arrive in early July, are traditionally accompanied by the drinking of cremat, a rum, coffee, sugar, lemon and cinnamon concoction that you first set alight briefly before drinking.
