It was constructed to connect the villages of Portugalete and Getxo. Actually, it was the first suspension bridge in the world and it’s one of the 8 bridges of this kind that still works. In origin, the main use of this bridge was to transport the bourgeoisie to the different spas located in both sides of the river.
