Hey all,

In July I'll arrive at Port Elizabeth airport, and I need to go to Graaff Reinet. Since I'll be traveling by myself and since it's my first time in South Africa, I'm not really a fan of renting a car.

Is there any reliable transfer or shuttle service that you know of? I've seen a couple of companies online, but they didn't look that thrustworthy.

Thanks for your help.

Have heard many horror stories of how unsafe South Africa, in particular Joburg & Cape Town. There are also many advice not to take the mini buses or kombis as well.
I always like to take local transport in countries I visit.
Is it really that unsafe even in the day time?
As I know most of the stories are exaggerated, I would appreciate if any locals or travellers who have been there recently & travel around by such mini buses can advise me.
Thanks.

I am going on a 33 day Tour with Africa Travel Co in September this year.
Their departure point and pre tour accommodation is at Mufasa Backapackers in Jo'burg. But looking on the map and reading reviews it looks like there is literally nothing around, no Restaurants, shops etc.
We will only have to stay for one night but wondering if anyone else has gone on a tour with ATC and stayed elsewhere? Can you recommend anywhere? is it easy enough to stay elsewhere and then just meet the rest of the…

Hi,

I'll be travelling to Port Elizabeth for a conference. I would like to spend time in Durban afterwards however, the organisers booking my tickets have cautioned me against travel outside that area due to crime and drought. (https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/International-Travel-Country-Information-Pages/SouthAfrica.html) I feel they are being over-cautious.

Can anyone who is there or has travelled there recently give me an idea of the risks involved? I am a…

In December 2017, my boyfriend and I went on 5-month trip to South-Africa and neighbouring countries. As EU citizens you receive a 90 days visitors' visa on arrival valid for 90 days. Since our plan was to start and our trip in South Africa, we applied for a tourist visa extension. In theory it is possible to apply for a tourist extension, in practice is seemed impossible. We spoke with several people with the same problem. Below you can find some important information regarding a tourist visa…
