As graveyard for many errant ships, the coast between the Great Fish River and East London is deservedly known as the Shipwreck Coast. This 67km, six-day trail leads from Port Alfred to the Great Fish River Mouth and includes canoeing. You are rewarded with wild, unspoiled sections of surf beach, rich coastal vegetation and beautiful estuaries. Accommodation is in huts.

The slackpacking option, with more comfortable lodgings, costs from R1900. A four-night, five-day trip excluding canoeing, and an overnight canoe trail on the Kleinemonde West River, are other options.
