Take a half-day tour of Soweto, a township in the Johannesburg area, with a guide to visit some of its most historically significant sites. You'll see Nelson Mandela's former house, Vilakazi Street (the only place in the world that has been home to two Nobel Laureates), the Hector Pieterson Memorial, and Freedom Square. Lunch is included at a local shebeen. Tour is limited to eight people to provide a small-group experience.
You'll be picked up at your hotel in Pretoria in the mid-morning to start your tour of Soweto. Drive past Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital and Soccer City, and take a walk in the district of Kliptown at Freedom Square. See Regina Mundi, a Catholic church that played an important role for the Soweto people during the struggles of Apartheid, and visit Nelson Mandela National Museum, aka Mandela House, located on Vilakazi Street. You will also be treated to lunch at a popular restaurant here on Vilakazi Street where you can sample the local fare. For lunch, visit a fashionable Soweto "shebeen", and experience the atmosphere of Vilakazi Street, where two Nobel Prize winners, Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu, both lived. You'll also visit the Apartheid Museum and the Hector Pietersen Memorial. Your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel in the late afternoon.
