Modjadjiskloof, named Duiwelskloof (Devil's Gorge) by European settlers after the devilish time they had getting their caravans up and down the surrounding hills, is a gateway to some worthwhile stops – depending on where you're coming from, you're well placed to go from here to Kruger National Park, the Venda region and the charms of the Letaba Valley. Closer to home, there's a lovely forested reserve and the remains of a majestic old baobab tree.
