This classy hotel is one of our favourites in the province. The 19 small rooms in the main building are slick, stylish and individual; several feature art and design by contemporary South African artists – room nine is rustic meets pop art – as do the lounge, bar and dining room. Sadly, it's often swamped by coach parties, so book ahead.
The 15 garden bungalow rooms out the back – little wheelchair-friendly country cottages with doll's house-like furniture – are equally comfortable, with glass doors opening onto the lush garden.
If you'd like an early breakfast to beat the crowds heading to the Blyde River Canyon, Graskop Hotel offers a buffet (from R45) from 7am to 9.30am. Nonguests are welcome to join if there's space.
