The Free State's cuisine is heavily influenced by Afrikaners, and you can expect to be served a few different meats each day, oftentimes all before 10am. Chicken livers are abundant, rump steak is huge and no plate is complete without cured game or sausage. Bloemfontein is the region's culinary centre, while Ficksburg is a big deal for its cherries. Parys and Clarens will also feed you quite well.
