Hiking & Mountain Biking

Kartografija's 1:40,000 Pohorje (€12) map outlines various circular hiking trails that are as short as 2km (30 minutes) and as long as 32km (eight hours) while the free Rogla-Zreče Karta Pohodnih Poti hiking map has 14 hikes and walks of between 3km and 33.5km. A good choice outlined on both maps is the 12km hike (three hours) that leads northwest to the Lovrenc Lakes (Lovrenska Jezera), a turf swamp with 20 small lakes that are considered a natural phenomenon.

Mountain bikers should get hold of a copy of the excellent free 1:100,000 Pohorje Cycling Map, spanning the entire Pohorje area with a dozen trails outlined heading west towards Slovenj Gradec and Dravograd and out east to Maribor. The spa’s map/brochure (1:50,000) called Rogla Terme Radfahrwege/Cycling Paths is much more basic, but sticks to the local area with nine trails linking Zreče, Rogla and Areh.

Small guesthouses, apartments and farmhouses accepting guests are scattered throughout the Zreče Pohorje region particularly around Resnik, 7km southwest of Rogla and Skomarje, further to the southwest. Enquire at the TIC in Zreče for a list. Zreče and Rogla are the only places with bigger hotels.

In both Rogla and Zreče most guests eat at their hotels, so there is not large selection of independent restaurants to choose from.
