The thermal spa of Moravske Toplice, 7km northeast of Murska Sobota, boasts the hottest water in Slovenia: 72°C at its source, but cooled to a body temperature of 38°C for use in its many pools and basins. Though it’s one of the newest spas in the country – the spring was discovered in 1960 during exploratory oil drilling – many young Slovenes consider the clientele too old for their liking, preferring the small, partly au naturel spa at Banovci to the southwest. But Moravske Toplice is every bit a health resort geared for recreation, and the Terme 3000 thermal bath complex, with its water-park style facilities, makes a good pit stop if you're travelling with little ones in tow.
