Welcome to Piešťany
Most of the soaking and soothing happens on Kúpeľný Ostrov (literally, 'Spa Island'), a sanctuary wrapped in the Váh River. Visitors idle by lily ponds, clad in towelling robes, waiting for their next hot-mud wrap; and turn-of-the-century buildings impart a grand, slightly nostalgic feel. West of Kolonádový Bridge is the town centre, with lush parks and enough fountains to bring to mind the healing springs simmering beneath.
No time to slip into the thermal waters? Some of Piešťany's springs are sipped, rather than swum in; look for the taps on Spa Island for a mouthful of piping-hot, egg-scented water...hey, it's good for your health.
