Dundonnell is a tiny settlement overlooked by a combination of imposing ridges. An Teallach (1062m) is a magnificent mountain; the highest summit can be reached by a path starting less than 500m southeast of the Dundonnell Hotel (six hours return). Traversing the ridge to Sail Liath is a more serious proposition, with lots of scrambling in precarious places and difficult route-finding.

Carry Ordnance Survey (OS) map No 19, food, water and waterproof layers – it’s amazing how quickly the weather can turn foul here.
