Visit: Dunnottar Castle, Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire, ScotlandOur first stop is the stunning Dunnottar Castle located just outside of the beautiful village of Stonehaven. Here you'll visit a Fortress poised on the promontory out to sea. The impressive ruins was home to the Earl of Marishall and retains both the military barracks & buildings as well as the family home. The next visit is one of Aberdeenshire's castles which is a bit of a hidden gem, Edzell Castle. Again a ruined estate but this time its tucked away in the countryside of the Mearns. Edzell castle is a glimpse of a more lordly lifestyle in this country estate. Owned by the Lindsay family the estate was build in the early 1520's. The walled garden has unique features that you'll not see anywhere else!The last castle on our stop is the popular Crathes Castle home to the Burnett-Leys on the edge of Banchory in the Royal Deeside. Crathes Castle is one of Scotland’s National Trust Properties. Wander through the walled garden and admire the massive yew hedges, planted as early as 1702. Explore this magnificent 16th-century tower house, with its intricate maze of turrets, towers, oak panels and painted ceilings.
