Walking & Cycling

There’s some great coastal and mountain walking on the island, including a couple of easy, waymarked nature trails in the woods around Kinloch. The first path on the left after leaving the pier leads to an otter hide (signposted).

The climb to the island’s highest point, Askival (812m), is a strenuous hike and involves a bit of rock scrambling (allow six hours for the round trip from Kinloch).

Glen Harris is a 10-mile round trip from Kinloch, on a rough 4WD track – allow four to five hours’ walking, or two hours by bike. You can hire bikes from Rum Bike Hire at the craft shop near Kinloch Castle.
