Places to stay are very limited, so book ahead. As well as the Jura Hotel, there's a handful of B&Bs and several self-catering cottages let by the week (see www.juradevelopment.co.uk). One of these is remote Barnhill, where Orwell stayed.
You can camp (£5 per person) in the field below the Jura Hotel; there's a toilet and shower block that walkers, yachties and cyclists can also use. From July to February check on the deer-stalking situation before wild camping.
