Introduction

The East End includes the oldest part of the city, concentrated around Glasgow Cathedral, and a range of traditional Glasgow districts that are fast becoming hubs of creative activity. One of these, the Calton, once famous for its linen mills, is now one of Britain's poorest areas; it hums with life at its famous weekend Barras market. It's a predominantly Catholic area and a major focus of worship is the stadium of Celtic FC just down the road.
