Explore Linlithgow Palace, Outlander's Wentworth Prison; see Blackness Castle, the Headquarters of Black Jack Randall, and explore the Royal Burgh of Culross, Claire's herb garden; and many more!
Your tour departs at 8:30am from 521 Lawnmarket, Edinburgh, EH1 2PE. In Summer, your first stop is Midhope Castle (01 Apr - 24 Sep only), also known as Outlander's Lallybroch Castle for a stop for photos. In Winter, your first stop of the day is Doune Castle (25 Sep - Mar only), the home of Outlander's Clan MacKenzie. Following the Outlander trail, continue to Blackness Castle, known in the popular TV series as the headquarters of Black Jack Randall. Stop here for 30-45 minutes exploring the mighty fortification, that has been described as 'a ship that never sailed' and enjoy views over the Firth of Forth. Your next stop is in the small town of Linlithgow. Here, you have time to explore the town and visit Linlithgow Palace, if you wish. The palace was the set of Outlander's 'Wentworth Prison', and is set in beautiful surroundings. It was also used as a relaxing retreat for the Royal Family when they travelled between Edinburgh and Stirling Castle. Then journey to Callander House. The grand house is now a museum and dates back to the 14th Century; its kitchen used as an indoor set for the Duke of Sandringham's house. Enjoy its beautiful surroundings for approximately 45 minutes before continuing on to Culross. The Royal Burgh of Culross is a quaint village nestled on the coast of the Firth of Forth. Its ancient houses provide an excellent example of what life was like in 17th Century Scotland. Visit the Mercat Cross, a filming location for Outlander's 'Cranesmuir Village', and see its palace gardens, which were used as Claire's herb garden. You have time for refreshments here at the cute Biscuit Cafe, before you stop for photos at Tuilyies Standing Stones, if time permits. Our last stop of the day is Hopetoun House (Apr-Oct only). The 17th Century stately home was the set for the Duke of Sandringham's home in Outlander. Enjoy time here to explore the house and its grounds before we return to Edinburgh.
