On this two hour tour, we dive into Edinburgh’s most famous authors, from Robert Burns to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle to, yes, J.K. Rowling. We’ll visit the Writers’ Museum, learning about the legacy of the city’s most famous authors (and maybe don a 19th century outfit in the process) before visiting some of the most important sites in the city for the creation of Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
On this two hour family tour, we dive into the world of literary Edinburgh, retracing the steps of such authors like Robert Louis Stevenson, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and J.K. Rowling. We’ll begin at the Writers’ Museum, where we’ll learn a bit more about foundational Scottish authors like Walter Scott and Robert Burns. Here, we’ll don a 19th century outfit, grab a quill, and try our hand at a verse like Burns. We’ll also investigate the aforementioned Doyle and Stevenson, perhaps employing our detective skills to solve a literary mystery in the process. Leaving the museum, we’ll take a stroll around a section of Edinburgh integral to the development of the Harry Potter series. After having our fill of witchcraft and wizardry, we’ll recap our time together over a hot chocolate, reflecting upon Edinburgh’s impressive literary history and how the city inspired everything from swashbuckling tales to Hogwarts.
