Climbing Ben Lomond is a very popular walk. In Balmaha, a short but steep climb from the car park leads up Conic Hill (361m), a superb viewpoint (2.5 miles round trip; allow two to three hours). The Millennium Forest Path is a 40-minute introduction to the area's tree and plant life.
Book your accommodation ahead in the walking season, as it packs out. There are hostel, hotel and camping options as well as B&Bs along this stretch.
From March to September, wild camping is restricted on the eastern shore of Loch Lomond between Drymen and Ptarmigan Lodge (just north of the Rowardennan SYHA). There are campsites at Milarrochy, Cashel and Sallochy, and a hostel at Inversnaid.
The Oak Tree Inn is the best place to eat in this stretch, but the Rowardennan Hotel, Rowardennan SYHA and Inversnaid Bunkhouse also do meals.
