The A9 cuts across the region through Perth and Dunkeld. It's the fast route to to Inverness, and can be very busy, especially at weekends. The road is being upgraded to dual carriageway throughout its length, with completion scheduled for 2025; in the meantime, roadworks may cause delays.
Trains run alongside the A9, destined for Inverness. Another line connects Perth with Stirling (to the south) and Dundee (to the east). (There are no useful services for this region on the Kirkcaldy–Leuchars line.)
Perth is the hub for regional bus routes linking to Blairgowrie, Crieff, Kinross and St Fillans.
