Welcome to Brae
The crossroads settlement of Brae has several accommodation options and is an important service centre for the whole of northern Shetland. It's no beauty, despite its bayside location, but there’s fine walking on the peninsula west of Brae and to the south on the red-granite island of Muckle Roe, which is connected to the peninsula by a bridge. Muckle Roe also offers good diving off its west and north coasts.
South of Brae, Voe (Lower) is a pretty collection of buildings beside a tranquil bay on Olna Firth. With a cheap sleep and pub meals opposite, it can make a good stop.
