Bars & Cafes
A short trip across the water from Helsinki, Estonia’s capital, Tallinn, is the jewel of the nation. The medieval Old Town is its highlight, and weaving your way along its narrow, cobbled streets is like strolling back to the 14th century.
Despite (or perhaps because of) centuries of occupation, Estonians have tenaciously held onto their national identity and are deeply, emotionally connected to their history, folklore and national song traditions.
Tallinn has numerous cosy cafes decorated in plush style, ideal spots to while away a few hours if the weather’s not being kind. Nightlife, with alcohol not such a wallet drain as in other Nordic countries, is pretty vibrant.
