Finland’s vast forested wildernesses are some of Europe’s least populated areas. Large national parks with excellent networks of trails, huts and camping grounds make this prime hiking country. Kayaking and canoeing are also great options.
Northern Finland’s numerous ski resorts aren’t very elevated but are great for beginners and families. Skiing’s just the start, though: snowy wildernesses crossed in sleds pulled by reindeer or huskies, snowmobile safaris, ice-breaker cruises, nights in snow hotels and a personal audience with Santa Claus are other wintry delights.
Design & Architecture
Finnish design is world-famous; browsing Helsinki’s shops, from flagship emporia to edgy bohemian studios, is one of the city’s great pleasures. Some of the world’s finest modern architecture can also be found scattered around Finland’s towns.
