Skagen, Denmark

Sweeping skies, moving sands and duelling seas: the appeal of Skagen is both ephemeral and constant. The lure of the light has drawn many – packing paintbrushes – from far beyond its coastline, and its blending colour of sky, sea and sand can inspire awe in the most hardened of souls. This is both Jutland's northern tip and Denmark's 'end of the line', where gentle fields give way to ghostly dunes, a buried church and the shape-shifting headland of Grenen, where the Baltic meets its murky North Sea rival.
