Working and volunteering

While there are no formal volunteer programs to apply for, you may be able to work something out with one of the scores of NGOs in the country, most of which are Portuguese. The Federação das ONGs em São Tomé e Príncipe can give you more information. The marine conservation organisation Marapa (www.marapa.org) is a good place to start.

Foreign workers must be sponsored by a local company, and have skills that cannot be sourced locally. Before giving a job to a foreign worker the opening is first announced on local TV and radio.
