Bus & Minibus
Gisenyi's bus station is 2km northwest of the town centre towards the DRC border. Various companies go between Gisenyi and Kigali (RFr3000, four hours) via Musanze (Ruhengeri; RFr1200, two hours). Departures are half hourly from 7am until 5pm. There are also several daily services between Gisenyi and Kibuye (Karongi; RFr3000, 3½ hours) between 5.30am and 4pm. Ask at the bus station as operators on these routes vary (but prices are the same).
There are a few daily buses to Kampala, Uganda (US$15 to US$20, 14 hours) that leave from a separate car park that lies 200m further west along the road. Prices are normally quoted in dollars for this route, but tickets are payable in francs (or dollars).
There's a twice-weekly passenger ferry service between Gisenyi, Kibuye (Karongi) and Cyangugu (Rusizi). The boat makes the southbound trip from Gisenyi on Wednesdays and Saturdays, leaving from Rubona Peninsula at 7am. It arrives at Kibuye (RFr2500) around 10.30am and at Cyangugu (RFr5000) around 3.45pm. Boats head north from Cyangugu on Tuesdays and Fridays.
