The largest Orthodox Cathedral in Saint-Petersburg is dedicated to Peter the Great's patron saint. The construction of the building lasted for 40 years until 1858. It was designed by a French architect Auguste de Montferrand and decorated by the best artists from the Russian Academy of Fine Arts. The interiour of the Cathedral is adorned with Roman mosaic panels, semi-precious stones, oil paintings.
