Now a branch of the Russian Museum with portraits of Russian rulers on display, this castle built for Paul I has a fascinating and mysterious history, which includes Paul's assassination in his own bedroom. After all, the castle was used for the Army Engineers School and became know was the Engineer's Castle. Today the building hosts a branch of the Russian Museum.
