Look out for the runic Old Hungarian alphabet, which can be seen on street signs around Gheorgheni. This writing form is so ancient that linguists can't agree on it precise origin. Locals proud of their Székely heritage think it's due for a comeback. Another unexpected influence is Armenian culture: Gheorgheni had a sizeable Armenian minority in the 18th century and is home to an Armenian Church (on, appropriately named, Str Biserica Armeană).
