Hamad International Airport

Airport in Doha

No expense was spared design-wise on Doha's world-class, uber-modern airport, which opened in 2014 at a cost of US$17 billion to build. In 2016, it served more than 37 million passengers, and experts believe it could handle 93 million passengers per year, putting it on track (before the Gulf-Qatar diplomatic crisis broke out) to be one of the world's busiest.

The airport has Apple Mac desktops for passengers to use, and is studded with world-class modern art pieces, including the larger-than-life Small Lie by US artist Kaws, who made a 32-feet tall wooden toy, and Other Worlds, US sculptor Tom Otterness' set of eight interactive bronze sculptures that kids can climb on and slide down. There are plenty of other pieces to explore, and more will be added over time.
