Piera is a travel writer who divides her time among Hong Kong (hometown), Taiwan and Vancouver when not on the road. She has authored over a dozen travel guides and contributed to as many travel-related titles. Piera has a BA in literature from Pomona College. Her early life was peppered with trips to Taiwan and China to visit relatives, and then to Southeast Asia where her father was working. But it was during her first trip to Europe that dawn broke. She remembers fresh off a flight, looking around her in Rome, thinking, 'I want to be doing this everyday.' And she has.
Since then Piera has been to Europe, the Americas and all over Asia – solo in the past, and more recently, with her young daughter in tow. Piera is also a film reviewer, translator and poet, whose works have appeared in The Hollywood Reporter, Cha Asian Literary Journal, among other publications. She has developed advertising copy for everything from mattresses to fund houses, and edited books and magazines on film and horse-racing. Piera knows three Chinese dialects, English and French. She writes in English and thinks in Chinglish, but when it comes to fighting, it is her Cantonese that delivers the deadliest blows.
