From the bus station buses run to regional towns and villages. Weekends see fewer services. The bus station is in the southern part of town, about 600m from the historic centre.
All buses stop at and depart from a smart new, modern ‘marble-mobic’ bus station, located off Avenida 25 de Abril (behind the azulejo-covered former train station).
All buses stop at the Praça Valéncia de Alcántara. There are at least two daily services to Portalegre. Ask at the turismo for bus times.
The bus station is outside the city walls, on the road to Spain. It’s an 800m walk mostly uphill (or a €6 taxi ride) to the main praça.
