Getting There & Away

Scotturb runs buses 403 and 417, which leave regularly for Cascais (€4.25, one hour), the former via Cabo da Roca (€4.25). Bus 418 heads to Estoril (€4.25, 40 minutes). Most services leave from Sintra train station (which is estação on timetables) and travel via Portela de Sintra. Scotturb’s useful information office is opposite the station.

Mafrense has buses heading to Mafra (€3.50, 50 minutes) and Ericeira (€3.50, one hour) from the Portela de Sintra Interface on the north side of Portela de Sintra train station.

Comboios de Portugal runs trains (€2.25, 40 minutes) half-hourly between Sintra and Lisbon’s Rossio station (hourly on weekends), and every 20 minutes to Lisbon's less-convenient Oriente station (half-hourly on weekends). If arriving by train, go to the last stop – Sintra – from where it’s a pleasant 1km, sculpture-peppered walk into the village.
