At first, modern Seia might feel largely like a charmless strip of contemporary buildings slapped on to a hillside. But look again. It has sweeping views over the surrounding lowlands and some excellent local museums, especially the Centro de Interpretacão da Serra da Estrela. Plus it boasts attractive rural lodgings in the surrounding hills. The town itself is also a handy place to buy cheese, cured meats and woolly slippers.
