    Ervideira

Set in the former primary school, this welcoming shop sells wines by Ervideria, a 160-hectare vineyard that's been run by the same family since the 1880s. You can sample some unusual wines (try the Invisível, so named for its transparent colour), or even linger on the terrace upstairs over a glass (€3 to €5) or a bottle (from €9).

    Casa Tial

Run by a French expat, this charming little shop is a fine spot to browse for gifts, with artfully wrapped tins of sardines, high-quality olive oils, unique wines, handsomely packaged liqueurs (like the limoncello-stylel Limontejo) and rich chocolates. You can also stop by for espresso and desserts (try a delicia de Monsaraz, made with squash, almond, orange and cinnamon).

    Loja da Mizette

Here you can purchase handsome Alentejano mantas (woollen rugs and blankets) that are still made entirely by handloom. The factory in Reguengos where these are produced – the Fabrica Alentejana de Lanificios – is the only one still in existence.
