Its origins go back to the Palaeolithic, conquered to the Moors by D. Afonso Henriques, in 1165, and later donated to the Order of the TemplarsWe go to Covilhã, you will find the interesting Cheese Museum. Unique place where you can get to know the whole process of artisanal manufacture of the famous cheese of the Serra.we stopped a bit to take some photos of the center of the city of Covilhã, located on the slope of Serra da Estrela, facing the East, this city, seat of county, is located at about 700 meters of altitudeWe will visit Penhas da Saúde the beautiful mountain village located at about 1500 meters altitude in the heart of the Serra da Estrela. Then visit the Nossa Senhora da Boa Estrela, the patroness of the Pastores. In Covão do Boi, situated above the 1,850 meters of altitude, one can appreciate the magnificent monument carved in the granite rock of Nossa Senhora da Boa Estrela or the shepherds, with seven meters of height.Then we continue to the Tower which is the highest point of the Serra da Estrela and also of Continental Portugal.
