Madeira offers a mix of cuisines, but most restaurants plate up dishes specific to the island, such as scabbardfish and deserts based on local fruit. Funchal has the overwhelming majority of all Madeira's eateries – choice is limited outside the capital.

English Menus

We have yet to find a place to eat on Madeira that didn’t have an English menu, or one in German, French, Spanish and even Finnish for that matter, though translations can be a bit ropey and sometimes amusing. Very few waiters have problems communicating in English, even in the remotest of places.
