Portuguese in Bairro Alto, Chiado & Cais do Sodré

Despite the name, this is a traditional joint with a Portuguese menu. It's a local haunt with a buzzing, if downmarket, atmosphere (the green and beige tiles aren't winning any design awards) and a grill-master in front who whips up tasty grilled meats and seafood.

Throw yourself into the action at the counter, where a local following enjoys good chocos (cuttlefish) and feijoada à Transmontana (proceed with caution – it contains the kind of suspect pork bits not everyone wants to eat!).
