Lapa & Alcântara

In quiet, tree-lined Lapa you can easily tiptoe off the well-trodden trail along cafe-rimmed squares, lanes with breezy river views and gentrified streets where 18th-century mansions harbour antique stores, boutiques, galleries and grand embassies. Closer by the river, Alcântara is symbolic of the new Lisbon. Here, once-dilapidated warehouses, industrial districts and waterfront docks have been reborn in recent years as hipster multiuse complexes such as LX Factory and Village Underground Lisboa, and as en vogue riverside-dining and entertainment districts such as Doca de Santo Amaro.
