We will visit the most ancient Thermal Hospital of the World. Inside we are going to have a look to the “Pool of the Queen” where D. Leonor Portuguese Queen and founder of the city took some baths. We start at the historic center, where a great part of the thermal heritage is concentrated, and we will visit the Thermal Hospital where it stays the Swimming Pool where the Queen bathed.Next to the Thermal Hospital is the simple but artistically rich Nossa Senhora do Pópulo Church and the green D. Carlos I Park. We will discover the most important phases of the city’s history, from its foundation, to the urban renewal by the hand of king D. João V, to the golden age of the 19th century, during which the Caldas became one of the most important places in Portugal
Our tour starts at 09h30am at the meeting point. The first stop is at the very first Thermal Hospital in the world. No by making water treatments (because the romans already do it in the past), but because the combination with medical treatments. Here we are going to see the old swimming pool where the queen D. Leonor took some baths. After we are going to see one of the first examples of the "Manuelino" style at the Our Lady of Populo church. At the interior of the church we will see traditional tiles. Afer we will have a break to taste some local pastry - "Cavacas" or "Little Kisses" and drink the Sour Cherry Liqueur in one of the old "coffees" of the city. Before we end our tour we will visit the Praça da Fruta (the fruit square), a unique street market at Portugal that is open from 07ham to 15hpm with amazing fresh products.
