ONLY ON TUESDAYS - This walk will allow you to explore the south flank of Fogo Volcano. Enjoy amazing views over towns and villages along the south coast as you walk through pasture lands. Then, immersed deep in the valleys of lush vegetation, discover the secrets of “The Water Route” where numerous springs and a maze of tunnels, aqueducts and pipelines capture and convey the water to supply the urban areas. Admire the geological formations that display peculiar morphologies. Those most attentive may find the Triturus cristatus, an endangered species of newt.
The walk starts close to the springs of “Janela do inferno”. Crossing a few tunnels, we’ll immerse deep in the valleys of lush vegetation and see old aqueducts and pipelines capture and convey the water to supply the urban áreas. After this kind of tropical jungle, we’ll go through a clearance of pasture land to get again into a forest. Crossing a few rivers we’ll get to another water capture área. Admire the geological formations that display peculiar morphologies. Some of these walls are used for climbing. The Fauna I also spectacular. See the Triturus cristatus, an endangered species of newt as well as some endemic species of plants and birds.
