Welcome to Szklarska Poręba
At the foot of Mt Szrenica (1362m) at the western end of Karkonosze National Park, Szklarska Poręba (shklahr-skah po-rem-bah) is a lively little place in the right seasons, full of walkers, skiers and souvenir cudgels (mini-tomahawks). A major health resort and ski centre just 21km southwest of Jelenia Góra, it's the inevitable base for the region’s many outdoor activities. Skirting the Kamienna River on its way down from the hills, the main street is ul Jedności Narodowej, which snakes up the slope to Nordic skiing hotspot Jakuszyce. Branching off it is ul 1 Maja. Both thoroughfares account for the bulk of the resort's accommodation, restaurants and outdoor-gear shops.
