Welcome to Kartuzy
The small town of Kartuzy, 30km west of Gdańsk, is the capital of Kashubia and hence the best place to access the Kashubians' folksy culture. It owes its birth and its name to the Carthusians, a religious order that was brought here from Bohemia in 1380. Today Kartuzy is a sleepy provincial centre with a cosy, semirenovated historical centre and two huge lakes intruding into the town. Half a day is about enough to see everything.
