Pedras do Castelo

Alto Alentejo

Right across from the castle, this welcoming, easy-going spot is a great place to taste Alentejan delicacies – like porco preto (black pork) or bacalhau dourado (codfish with potatoes and eggs), as well as dishes with Asian flavours – try the jin jiao (dumplings) stuffed with shrimp, meat or vegetables.

Luis Pedras, the affable English-speaking owner, is also an artist, and his pottery decorates the restaurant. In the kitchen, his wife who hails from China, cooks up beautifully prepared dishes, including some imaginative desserts (like grilled pineapple with honey).
