Zhongshan Station

Antarctica

China’s Zhongshan Station, founded in 1989, accommodates about 60 people in summer and 22 winterovers. A quiet room in Zhongshan features a bust of Sun Yat-sen, first president of the Chinese republic, for whom the station is named. The station’s most colorful feature consists of six large fuel tanks whose ends are painted with brightly colored masks from the Chinese national opera.
